The activities will include routes around natural resources

The Cabildo of Lanzarote, in collaboration with the Senderismo Lanzarote organization, will launch from next Saturday, July 23 until February 2023, a hiking program aimed at young people and families on the island.

The objective of this initiative, which is called "Get to know your island", is "to value the environmental, historical and cultural heritage of Lanzarote in an active way through didactic itineraries", explains the Councilor for Youth of the island corporation, Myriam Barros. In addition, "the hiking routes will be complemented with other entertainment activities, trying to offer young people an alternative and healthy leisure", she adds.

As Barros details, "through this project it is intended to reach the entire youth and child population residing in Lanzarote, although the indirect beneficiaries will be fathers, mothers, relatives, the educational system and society in general." "During the outings, special emphasis will be placed on young people and children knowing and being able to enjoy again, in their free time, the enclaves they visit through this activity with their families," says the councilor.

The outings aimed at young people on the island will preferably take place in the afternoon or at night in which, helped by flashlights, they will visit corners with historical and biodiversity content. In addition to the environmental, historical and landscape content, the activity will include practical workshops on learning photography or history, dance, skateboarding, astrophysics and ornithology, among others.

As for the routes with boys and girls, they will be done together with their parents for family learning. In this case, the main monitor will interpret the environmental, historical and cultural content of the area visited. In addition, attractive and participatory complementary activities such as painting, storytelling, photography, ornithology and gastronomy, among others, will be carried out.

In total, 16 outings have been scheduled that will tour various corners of the island: eight trails aimed at young people called "Lanzarote at night and sunset" and another eight trails for children of school age and their families with the name "Lanzarote with family".

The first of the routes, aimed at the young population, will take place next Saturday, April 23, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and will go from Montaña Blanca to Playa Honda. It will go through the Barranco Negro and part of the jable between Güime and Playa Honda and will end with a workshop and skate exhibition by the Extreme Center team. The activity will also include a monitor, insurance for the participants and round trip bus transfer from Playa Honda to Montaña Blanca.

Also, on Sunday, July 24, there will be another hiking route, in this case aimed at families, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It will tour the Natural Park of the Volcanoes, where they will be able to discover through games, dynamics and explanations the history of the volcanoes of Lanzarote. In addition, at the end of the trail there will be a painting workshop taught by Diana Pérez. This activity will also include a monitor and insurance for its development.

"The programming will continue in August with two other routes, one for the young population and another for families, and so on each month," says the Councilor for Youth of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, who specifies that the planned programming, which will be reported in detail, includes outings through Haría, San Marcial de Rubicón, La Geria, Arrecife, La Santa, San Bartolomé, Teguise, Tías and Yaiza.
