The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has announced the call for the Short Story Contest 'Confined Stories' in collaboration with Isla Literaria, an association of booksellers and publishers of Lanzarote.

The contest, aimed at the population over twelve years of age, will be coordinated by the Education area of the Cabildo and anyone who wishes to participate may do so with no other requirements than being a resident of Lanzarote.

"We want to contribute to developing initiatives that promote creative entertainment in this difficult period of confinement that we are going through, being locked up at home does not prevent the journey of the imagination that writing a story entails," said Corujo.

For her part, the councilor responsible for the Education area, Paula Corujo, stated that "this initiative aims to offer tools that make the situation more bearable and encourage the population of Lanzarote to develop their creative capacity using the circumstances we are going through as a source of inspiration."

Categories and deadlines

The contest will have two categories: a youth category (from 12 to 17 years old inclusive with stories with a maximum length of 250 words) and a category for those over 18 years old, with stories of up to 750 words. Each participant can submit a maximum of two works.

The theme of the works submitted will be about the idea of confinement (prison, cell, shipwreck, desert island, quarantine, closure, isolation, retreat, recollection, solitude, etc...). Those who want to participate can send their works until April 30.

You can get more information about the contest and consult the complete rules on the website of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
