More than three decades have passed since a group of just five people from the municipality of Yaiza began touring stages, with plenty of grace, audacity and joy, to have fun entertaining audiences from Lanzarote, La Graciosa and Gran Canaria, without knowing that those first meetings of rehearsals and performances would lead to the creation of the group that for years we have identified as Play Back Mayores de Yaiza.

The group, now formed by about fifty people, celebrated its thirty years of trajectory this Monday at the patron saint festivities of Uga offering what it knows best how to do and transmit: interpretation, dance, humor, ease and very good vibes. The City Council of Yaiza, through the councilor of Social Dynamization and Attention to the Elderly, Águeda Cedrés, highlights the role of the elderly in the active life of the municipality as an "example of wisdom, vitality and union".

The hour and a half performance in Uga was full of emotions. The group remembered with images of old performances deceased women and men who joined forces enriching the artistic activity of the play back and also honored three women from Yaiza who with their art and commitment enlivened the first years of the group and its permanence on the stages: Aurelia Duarte, Asunción Cabrera and María Ángeles Betancort.

The three told how the beginnings of the play back were and how well they had from town to town, they even acted in several passages of the night and encouraged the public present to join the scenic group "without fears".

The play back is one of the scenic activities promoted by the Area of the Elderly of Yaiza that also performs theater workshops that end with the presentation of works such as the one that will take place on Thursday, May 29 on the occasion of the celebrations of the Canary Islands Day, it is Ya nos invitaron al zaguán, directed by Nisamar Montelongo, with a function scheduled at 7:00 p.m. at the House of Culture of Yaiza. The City Council presided over by Óscar Noda has a wide range of activities, training, cultural, sports and festive aimed at the southern population of older age.
