The San Bartolomé City Council presents the program for the 2023 Space Carnival. This will begin on February 11 and conclude on the 24th, with a wide agenda of activities that will take place throughout the municipality.
The mayor, Isidro Pérez, attended the rehearsals of the Afilarmónica ‘Las Revoltosas’ and the Batucada Guaychara, where he was able to announce this attractive carnival program in which the municipal groups are the protagonists.
During his visit, the mayor thanked “the involvement of local groups, dedicating many hours of work, to position San Bartolomé as a benchmark among the carnivals of Lanzarote”. Likewise, he highlighted the work of the Department of Festivities in organizing an agenda full of events for all audiences.
Isidro Pérez insisted that “this is one of the most anticipated events by the residents of this municipality that maintains its carnival roots”. Highlighting that “as has been customary in the activities organized by the City Council, this edition of our carnival will also have an adapted and inclusive program in which we all fit, where there will be support from occupational therapists, guaranteeing the participation of all boys and girls.”
It is worth noting the musical performances that will take place during the Carnival Day that will take place on Tuesday, February 21, starting at 12:00 p.m., in San Bartolomé and will feature the participation of troupes and batucadas from Lanzarote. Artists of the stature of Edwin Rivera, las K-Narias, Grupo Bomba and El Combo Dominicano, will meet between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the ‘Stellar Stage’. Likewise, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., the ‘Youth Hour’ will take place with Dj Ángel Pérez. At the same time, there will be children's workshops and a playroom, so that both the youngest and the oldest can enjoy the day.
The events will take place in all the towns of the municipality, from El Islote, Montaña Blanca, Güime, Playa Honda and San Bartolomé, and carnival workshops, face painting and dynamization will be carried out on Tuesday, February 14, in Montaña Blanca, Wednesday, February 15, in El Islote and Friday, February 17, in Güime.
On Saturday, February 11, at 8:00 p.m., the inauguration of the exhibition ‘Las Revoltosas, Toda una revolución’ will take place in the Bodeguita of Casa Cerdeña, and can be visited until February 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
On Saturday, February 18, at 9:00 p.m., the Féliz Rodríguez de la Fuente Park will host the Gran Gala Drag Queen with the participation of special guest Vanessa Artiles and the entertainment of Dj Alex Ossorio.
The youngest children will be the protagonists on Sunday, February 19, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., at the Carnaval Chinijo. The Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente Park will have inflatable mats, face painting, giant games, etc. In addition, a costume contest will be held and a children's-family performance will take place. In the afternoon, at 7:00 p.m., the municipal carnival groups will make their presentation accompanied by the ‘Chirimurga del timple' and the ‘Murga Los Simplones’
On Thursday, February 23, carnival headdress workshops, face painting, a virtual mask workshop and inflatable mats will be held in the Plaza Santa Elena de Playa Honda, giving the final touch to this day with the performance of the children's murgas.
The carnival program ends on Friday, February 24, with the traditional parade on Avenida de Guacimeta, ending at Juan el curita beach with the ‘Burning of the Guachinango’ and the performance of the Seguridad Social group.
