The Mararía social and cultural association for women has organized the 1st Elisa Betancort Delgado Painting Contest in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Arrecife City Council. The contest, which is born with the vocation of permanence in time, pays tribute to the painter Elisa Betancort, who recently passed away and who was a close collaborator of the feminist entity. The submitted works will be exhibited in June in the municipal art gallery Charco de San Ginés.
The initiative seeks to "promote the dissemination of the work of the Lanzarote artist, a woman committed to her time, with her creative spirit and with the objectives of equality and social justice that guide our group." This was stated at a press conference by the president of Mararía, Nieves Rosa Hernández, who highlighted the work of compiling Betancort's work in which the association has embarked.
"As stated in the contest rules, the works submitted to the contest will be collected between May 1 and 15 at the Mararía offices and will be exhibited in the Charco de San Ginés municipal art gallery between June 12 and 30, together with the paintings by Elisa Betancort that her family and friends have given us for this purpose," she explained.

Opening the way to emerging artists
The only prize awarded in the contest will be an award designed by the painter Rosa Vera. Given that the project seeks to value and promote the creative proposals of emerging artists, only those people who have not previously presented their works in individual exhibitions may participate.
Finally, the "fundamental" objective is to promote artistic expressions "that show how women and men face the current situation of inequality in society, with attitudes and behaviors based on respect, equality, freedom and autonomy, co-responsibility and the firm rejection of sexist violence."
The presentation of the contest was attended by the president of the Sociedad Democracia, Orlando Suárez, the Councilor for Culture, Eva de Anta and the family of Elisa Betancort, as well as a group of volunteers from the feminist association.
The rules for participating in the contest can be found on the Mararía Lanzarote Facebook page, on its website, on the telephones 928804834 and 928816074 or through the email [email protected].
