The La Tegala Sociocultural Center in Haría hosted last Saturday the presentation of Coplas de un poeta del Norte, Compilation of the unwritten work of the goatherd José Domingo León. This work by Concha de Ganzo collects the unpublished work of this resident of Órzola.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Publications Service, which is coordinated by the councilor Ascensión Toledo, edited the book of this poet from the north of the island, marking a significant milestone in the dissemination of local oral traditions.
During the presentation, the author of the book explained that "this work, of small format, but of great cultural value, is the result of a collaborative effort aimed at compiling the verses and recitations bequeathed to preserve and disseminate the heritage of Lanzarote". De Ganzo also shared details about the compilation process and the importance of rescuing the cultural expressions that define our identity.
The head of the Area, Ascensión Toledo, highlighted the institutional support of events like this to strengthen the commitment to culture and heritage. "This book is a testimony to the richness of our cultural heritage. Through the verses of José Domingo de León, we connect with our roots and ensure that future generations can appreciate and learn from our history," said Toledo.
The Councilor for Education of the Haría City Council, Paula Montero, also spoke at the presentation, expressing that "today we welcome a cultural treasure: the book Coplas de un poeta del norte. This event not only marks the fruitful collaboration between the Haría City Council and the Cabildo of Lanzarote, but also celebrates the effort of the author, Concha de Ganzo, in capturing the verses and recitations of the unforgettable resident of Órzola, José Domingo de León," said the northern councilor.
