Last Thursday night, José Hernández González was appointed Official Chronicler of San Bartolomé in an act held at 8:00 p.m. at the Municipal Theater of San Bartolomé, presided over by the mayor, Isidro Pérez Martín, authorities, family and friends of the chronicler, who was very excited and grateful to the attendees, whom he greeted personally.

The act began with the reading of the Plenary Act, signed by the secretary of the municipal corporation, José Manuel Fiestas Perdomo, which included the plenary agreement in an extraordinary session on September 24, 2024 approved by the unanimous vote of the 16 councilors.

Next, a video projection was carried out, a historical review of the Official Chronicler, followed by the intervention of the mayor who stated that "the municipality of San Bartolomé was experiencing a day of celebration and collective recognition before an audience committed to cultural values, and thus pay tribute to a person whose dedication and love for our history, our culture and our heritage has marked a before and after in the way we understand ourselves as a municipality."

José Hernández González is named Official Chronicler of San Bartolomé, an honorary and lifetime title that is granted to him in recognition of his tireless work of conservation, research and dissemination of our historical memory.

Hernández has been and continues to be a catalyst for the historical memory of our municipality. A tireless protector of the values that identify us as a community and an active defender of everything that represents our cultural identity. With his work he has managed to transmit not only to the younger generations, but also to all the people of our municipality, the deep respect that we owe to our history and to our ancestors.

José Hernández is not only a committed researcher. With his silent work over so long, he has managed to revitalize the Municipal Archive, giving it a new life and turning it into a space of knowledge accessible to all people. His work has also transcended the borders of our island, taking the study and research on San Bartolomé to the island level and even beyond our coasts.

"It is for all this that from the City Council of San Bartolomé we are proud to have José Hernández González as Official Chronicler and we deeply thank him for his tireless work to preserve our cultural identity and for being an example of generosity by sharing his knowledge with everyone," said the mayor.

After the mayor's speech, José Hernández González went up to the stage, surrounded by applause, and received the Accreditation Diploma and Sculpture and the Gold Badge of the Municipal Corporation from the mayor. Immediately afterwards, the newly proclaimed chronicler took the floor, very excited with a broken voice, thanking for the distinction received, making a very enriching historical chronology of the municipality of men and women who with their work and dedication left a cultural and patrimonial legacy that should currently be preserved as a valuable reference for future generations.

Then, at the request of the chronicler, the performance of the Coral Villa de Teguise took place, of which he is also a part. Directed by Professor Nuvi Tavío, they performed four songs chosen by José Hernández González, thus ending a day that will become part of the history of the municipality of San Bartolomé.
