The Haría City Council has celebrated Canary Islands Day with various Canarian activities. Through a program full of music, dances and family workshops, including the Table Setting contest. María del Pilar González was the winner of said contest that was held last Wednesday, May 29.
During Canary Islands Day, May 30, Haría hosted a fun day for all audiences, organized by the Culture and Festivities areas, led by Paula Montero and Alberto de León respectively, under the slogan 'Between palm trees and volcanoes'.
The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, stated that "with this meeting we commemorate a truly special day for all islanders." He also highlighted that "the celebration of Canary Islands Day has been a tremendous success." "Both the Table Setting and yesterday's activities received a great reception from the residents of the municipality," he clarified.
The day began in the Plaza de la Constitución, with the raising of the Canarian flag, accompanied by the performance of the Malpaís de la Corona Folk Group. In addition, performances by the Municipal Folklore School and the musical trio by Alexis Lemes.
It continued in the Plaza de Haría, where several Canarian sports were exhibited, such as Wrestling and Canarian Ball, proverb workshops and traditional games such as Teje. Also, there were several stands, where the public could attend wine tastings and tastings of some of the most emblematic products of Canarian gastronomy.
Finally, the celebration of Canary Islands Day closed with the Traditional Clothing Parade, by the Malpaís de la Corona Folk Group, and wooden carts by Manuel Perdomo Cabrera that were destined for the main stage of the square.
