The Popular Music Group Los Gofiones made the hundreds of visitors who gathered in the Ramírez Cerdá park in Arrecife vibrate on the occasion of Canary Day. The group from Gran Canaria was created in 1968 by Totoyo Millares. Thus, it was born with the commitment to investigate, rescue and disseminate the popular music of the Canary Islands, both traditional and popular, expanding its repertoire to other communities with which the Canaries have had some relationship throughout history.
Los Gofiones chose for their concert in Arrecife a wide selection of some of the songs that are included in their 24 albums. The very lively audience enjoyed singing and dancing to traditional songs with Canarian roots interspersed with the popular and more festive ones to which boleros and the odd ranchera were also added.
Los Gofiones, throughout their career, have taken their legacy around the world, where they have left an indelible mark. In their recordings they have also had national and international singers, in addition to having important awards and distinctions. Currently they have approximately 40 members, players and singers of different ages, ideologies and professions, belonging to more than seven generations.
Without a doubt, the project that has had the greatest impact on their career since its inception was the show called Manta y Estameña, which in 2013 brought Los Gofiones and Sabandeños together, making it one of the biggest events in musical history in the Canary Islands.
On Canary Day, the hundreds of people who came to the Ramírez Cerdá park sang, danced and enjoyed a unique night to the rhythm of Los Gofiones who gave it their all, leaving a very good taste in their mouths, taking as a prize from Arrecife the affection and dedication of the public who did not stop applauding them until the end of the concert.
