Since the end of November, the Rancho de Pascuas de Teguise has toured each of the educational centers of Teguise and La Graciosa, with the aim of spreading among the students of the municipality the essence of an ancestral tradition considered one of the main jewels of the entire folkloric culture of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands.
Adrián Villalba, as president of the Rancho de Teguise, accompanied by his colleagues and the official chronicler, Francisco Hernández, have explained to the children how this cultural manifestation was born and what it consists of, also showing the instruments, songs and dances of shepherds with which the Rancho de Pascuas celebrates Christmas every year.
In addition to the traditional announcement of the birth of Jesus and his intervention on Christmas Eve in the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe church at 11:00 p.m., the Rancho will perform on December 25 in the morning in the Historic Site of the Villa. "It will be an opportunity to show the joint work that the Rancho de Pascuas and the Rancho Chico do," Villalba declared, noting that they will also visit the elderly at the Insular Hospital and in the church of San Ginés on December 29.
The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has applauded this initiative of the Rancho de Pascuas de Teguise, one of the oldest in the Canary Islands, "constituting a pride for the inhabitants of the Real Villa, whose tradition we must preserve." Oswaldo Betancort encouraged them to continue "showing their devotion and promoting this enormous historical heritage of the Villa, which was justly decorated in 2006 with the Gold Medal of the Government of the Canary Islands and which has the maximum support of the Teguise City Council."
