El Gran Wyoming and Luis García Montero will talk at the FCM about "narratives, democracy and civil rights"

The event will be held next Saturday at the Foundation's headquarters and admission is free, although you must pick up the invitation in advance

The César Manrique Foundation (FCM) will host a conversation between José Miguel Monzón, known as El Gran Wyoming, and Luis García Montero next Saturday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m., at its headquarters in Taro de Tahíche, which will take place under the title "Narratives, democracy and civil rights". This activity is part of the program for the centenary of the birth of the artist that the institution that bears his name will continue to celebrate until April 24, 2020.

The conversation between Wyoming and García Montero will take as its starting point the Transition and the contradictions that marked this historical moment, with a Spain that was emerging from the dictatorship and entering the modernity of the 80s, to reach the analysis of the current situation of the democratic climate and civil rights in our country.

Admission to the event is free, as are all the activities organized by the FCM. However, due to limited capacity, those interested in attending must pick up an invitation in advance. A maximum of two invitations per person will be given, from Tuesday, February 4 until they run out, at the FCM headquarters, in Taro de Tahíche, from 09:00 to 15:00.  

At the end of the conversation, both Wyoming and García Montero will be available to the attending public to sign books. The latest publications of both protagonists "La furia y los colores and "Las palabras rotas" can be purchased in the same room where the event will take place.

 

Writer and presenter of "El intermedio"


José Miguel Monzón, El Gran Wyoming, is the presenter of one of the humor and information spaces that has the most impact on television and that has been successfully maintained with audience for twelve years on La Sexta, "El intermedio".

He has written several books, including titles such as "Te quiero personalmente" (1993), "No estamos locos" (2013), "No estamos solos" (2014), "¡De rodillas, Monzón! (2016) or his latest publication, "La furia y los colores" (2019).

Throughout his career he has received numerous awards, among others, the Ondas Award for his work on "El intermedio" and several times the Television Academy Award for best presenter. He combines this work with his musical facet as leader of the rock group "Wyoming y los insolventes".

 

Professor of Literature and writer


Luis García Montero has been director of the Cervantes Institute since 2018 and professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Granada, where he has held various positions such as the direction of the University Extension Secretariat.

As a poet, narrator and essayist he has received, among others, the National Literature Prize (1994), National Critics Prize (2003), Madrid Booksellers Guild Prize (2009), Poets of the Latin World Prize (Mexico, 2010), Ramón López Velarde Prize (Mexico, 2017) and Parallel 0 Prize (Ecuador, 2018).

He has studied the work of Spanish and Latin American authors such as Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, Rosalía de Castro, Rafael Alberti, Federico García Lorca, Luis Rosales, Rubén Bonifaz Nuño, Francisco Ayala or José Emilio Pacheco. He is also an honorary professor at the University of Mar del Plata (Argentina) and in 2017 he was named Favorite Son of Andalusia.
