The PSOE of Lanzarote has denounced that Oswaldo Betancort recognized in the Plenary held last Friday that "there is no defined plan" for the reform of the Insular Hospital. The opposition party has pointed out that this confirms "the lack of direction of Coalición Canaria and Partido Popular regarding a health infrastructure essential for the island".
The appearance was requested by the Socialist Group due to growing social concern over the future of the Hospital Insular and "the lack of clear information" from the Government. However, far from providing certainty, Betancort confirmed that "there is no concrete plan that guarantees its reform, rehabilitation, and continuity as a health resource at the service of the citizens".The PSOE general secretary of Lanzarote and congresswoman, María Dolores Corujo, has been "forceful" in evaluating the statements of the president of the Cabildo. "Oswaldo Betancort has recognized in the Plenary what the PSOE has been denouncing: there is no plan for the reform of the Insular Hospital. There is no roadmap, there are no deadlines, and there are no guarantees," she statedThus, Corujo has indicated that this admission confirms that Coalición Canaria "lacks a serious strategy to protect the Insular Hospital," which for the socialists, "increases the risk that this infrastructure will lose its healthcare function without a real project that guarantees its recovery".
“The Insular Hospital cannot remain in limbo due to the incapacity of those who govern today. We are talking about a fundamental resource that is part of the history, the present, and the sanitary future of our island”
Likewise, the socialists have warned that the lack of planning evidenced by the president of the Cabildo himself reinforces the concern about the real future of the center and highlights the absence of leadership in a matter of utmost importance for the island
