The until now councilor of Sports and Citizen Participation of Teguise, Alejandro Ramírez, has resigned from his positions in the municipal government group and has informed this Monday, February 2nd, that he will become part of the mixed group

Ramírez ran in the 2023 municipal elections under the banner of the Partido Popular, but he seems to have become disillusioned with the governing group. "I'm here to work for and by sport, if they don't let me work I'm going back home and I'm not going to leave through the back door," he revealed in a social media post around 10:00 AM.

In his social media post, the councilman has stated that in June 2023 he swore by his conscience and honor to "respond to citizen responsibility". After announcing his resignation from his Council seats, the for now popular has highlighted: "Long live freedom, damn it," in the same video in which he made his resignation public. The electoral results of June 2023 gave the PSOE as the winner, with Marcos Bergaz at the head, with eight seats. However, the majority added by Coalición Canaria (seven), Partido Popular (three), and Vox (one) gave the key to the municipal government to the confluence of three parties, with Olivia Duque (CC) at the head.Ramírez's resignation represents a change in Teguise's political landscape. In this way, the opposition parties would add eleven seats, with the councilors from PSOE (eight), Nueva Canarias (one), Primero Teguise (one), and Ramírez's seat (one). In contrast, the governing group would be left with ten seats.
