The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Culture, presents its cultural programming for the month of February, an agenda marked by live music, the Carnival atmosphere, and a diverse offering of scenic and exhibition proposals. This month, the island vibrates to the rhythm of great concerts, festive shows, and encounters with contemporary creation

The Minister of Culture of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Jesús Machín Tavío, highlights that “we continue to bet on a diverse and quality program, which addresses contemporary languages, but we also celebrate our traditions with proposals linked to Carnival that will fill cultural spaces with joy and participation, reflecting the commitment of the Cabildo to a close and accessible culture”.

Music

The Canary soprano Raquel Lojendio and the Madrid pianist Chiky Martín will offer a very special recital at the Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” Theater on February 6. Under the title Songs from two worlds, they will musically tour Spain, Argentina, and Brazil through composers such as Lorca, Falla, Halffter, Guastavino, Ginastera, Villa-Lobos, or Ovalle, in a meeting between two traditions united by the Atlantic.

In El Almacén, on February 27, **drummer and composer Takeo Takahashi** leads Melodías forjadas, a contemporary jazz project inspired by the sculptural work of Martín Chirino. Alongside Sergi Sirvent on piano and David Mengual on double bass, they will offer a dialogue between music and image, improvisation and form, evoking the free and expressive spirit of the Canarian artist

Carnival spirit

El Almacén hosts a new and anticipated edition of Cabaret Canalla, on February 11 and 12. Amidst laughter, music, and satire, this feverish troupe of cleaning ladies transforms the Buñuel hall into a carnival feast full of improvisation, criticism, and boldness. An authoritarian housekeeper, a landlady with political aspirations, and the remnants of a past party are the ingredients of this absurd show that is already close to a "last tickets" sign.

The tradition is also celebrated on the stage of the Víctor Fernández Gopar “El Salinero” Theater on February 13, with  Banderas del tiempo, an intense and ritual experience that reactivates, from the stage, the living practice of Los Buches. Music, body, and community intertwine in a proposal that takes the traditional carnival of Lanzarote to the realm of contemporary intangible heritage

Meetings and talks

The cycle Memory of Thursdays continues on February 5 in the Saramago Hall of the César Manrique Foundation with a talk by researcher Saúl Rojas titled Island of Cinema. The Cinematic Memory of Lanzarote. The session proposes a look at the island territory as a film archive, reviewing productions filmed in Lanzarote and La GraciosaOn February 20, El Almacén hosts Ladies and Gentlemen, a feminist pop show with Mariola Cubells and María Guerra that mixes humor, anecdotes, and audiovisual criticism. Based on the book Better Than Ever, this stage proposal celebrates women born in the sixties and reflects on how they have transformed imposed structures and redefined the concepts of age, motherhood, and media representation

Scene Lanzarote

The Escena Lanzarote cycle offers this month a double proposal from the prestigious company Marcat Dance. On Saturday, February 28, the Jameos del Agua Auditorium hosts Afines, a contemporary dance piece created and performed by Mario Bermúdez and Catherine Coury. The work proposes a physical and emotional exploration of the connection between two bodies that attract and repel each other, forget and rediscover each other, in an intimate dialogue marked by intensity and the creative search as the only way out

Additionally, from February 25 to 27, the *Marcat Dance Workshop Lanzarote* will take place, a workshop led by Catherine Coury and Mario Bermúdez. The meeting will combine movement technique, company repertoire, and work with the Gaga language, accessible to all levels, based on internal listening and free bodily expression
