The Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture hosted this Tuesday the official presentation of the poster and program of the San Ginés 2025 Festivities, patron saint of the municipality of Arrecife, in a press conference headed by the mayor, Yonathan de León; the deputy mayor and head of Festivities, Echedey Eugenio; and the Minister of Culture of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Jesús Machín.
The festivities of the island's capital will begin next Thursday, August 14 with the opening speech by the Parranda Marinera Los Buches and the Coral de Arrecife, in an act that will also pay posthumous tribute to Pepe Borges, founder and director of the Parranda Marinera Amigos de Portonao.
The poster for this edition has been designed by the students of the painting course of the Aula de la Tercera Edad de La Destila, thus adding an active and symbolic participation of the citizens in the start of the festivities.
Among the main musical attractions, the concert of the Mexican artist Alejandro Fernández stands out, who will perform on Monday, August 25 at Playa del Reducto, where Antoñito Molina will also perform on the 22nd. In addition, Los del Río (Wednesday 20) and Maikel Delacalle (Saturday 23) will perform within the San Ginés Joven festival, sharing the stage with artists such as Soge Culebra and Carmen Hernández.
The bulk of the activities will take place in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park, where the stage has been relocated and this year will be "facing the sea, to minimize inconvenience to residents," Eugenio explained.
The verbenas, the XXXVI Farmer's Festival with the show "Pasos y Cantos", with Los Campesinos and the participation of the Tigaray group and Pedro Guerra, the XXXV Meeting of Habaneras and Music of the Sea, "Braulio de León", the XXXI Folk Festival of Arrecife, musical tributes and the International Festival of Performing Arts "The world in Lanzarote, II edition" will take place there.
For its part, the stage for the big concerts, such as those of Alejandro Fernández and Antoñito Molina, is moved to the end of Playa del Reducto, beyond the 21st Century building, also with an orientation towards the sea.
The city will have different areas for its celebration: the fair area in the Ginory lot, the gastronomic area, between Avenida Marítima and Avenida Vargas, and the traditional stalls, in front of the Town Hall, with its own stage and nights dedicated to parrandas and version music.
The Summer Terrace also returns in the Travesía del Charco de San Ginés, as a musical and gastronomic meeting point. The program also includes activities on Playa del Reducto (beach soccer, volleyball, inflatables, slides and giant water slides), Tardeo Joven, Festival de Rock, San Ginés Xperience Dance Edition, Talent Show, the Fiesta de la Chola, Summer Cinema, etcetera, in addition to a whole program of traditional games, which will take place in the Charco de San Ginés, sporting events and tournaments and the program of religious events that will culminate on Tuesday 26 and whose most important event will be on Monday, August 25 with the solemn mass in honor of San Ginés and the subsequent procession.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, said during the presentation that "this year we are recovering the coastal essence and history of Arrecife. From the opening speech, as a tribute to the promoter of the Parranda Amigos de Porto Nao, to the traditional stalls, and giving life to the entire Arrecife waterfront," the mayor stressed.
De León highlighted the great sports program for the Sangineles, which includes the celebration of the San Ginés Football Tournament, the Canarian wrestling, and the Latin sailing, to the great commitment to high-level cultural and musical events, "as the third capital of the Canary Islands deserves to be" and added that in the present edition "we installed the central stage in the Punta del Camello to give more amplitude to the capacity of La playa de El Reducto".
The mayor was thus proud that the Sangineles are managing to revive Arrecife as part of the Government group's strategy to boost the capital of Lanzarote.
For his part, the deputy mayor and councilor for Festivities, Echedey Eugenio, stressed that this is a program "designed for the whole family, with improvements compared to previous years, new spaces and great artists." He also stressed the collaboration of different municipal areas and the Cabildo de Lanzarote. "We aspire every year to do better, to correct mistakes and, above all, to ensure that the entire population can enjoy festivities that combine tradition, culture, music and coexistence," he added.
Also, Jesús Machín, Minister of Culture of the Cabildo, thanked "the joint effort and commitment to a varied and quality program that reinforces the cultural identity of Arrecife and Lanzarote" and conveyed his gratitude "to all the people who have made it possible for Arrecife to regain its pride as a city".
Echedey Eugenio assures that "we want these festivities to be a benchmark, not only in Lanzarote, but throughout the Archipelago. And we will achieve this if we live them together, in the street, with joy and respect".
