Four of the seven municipalities of Lanzarote, Yaiza, Tías, San Bartolomé and Haría, registered this week a written request asking the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and president of the Water Consortium, Oswaldo Betancort, for the convocation of an Extraordinary Assembly of the Consortium so that the president accurately explain the contract termination file with the company responsible for the management of the integral water cycle on the island, Canal Gestión.

In addition, they also request that it delivers to local administrations a full copy of the documentation of said procedure after the Cabildo announced in a press release that the Consortium “is moving forward with the resolution of the contract with Canal Gestión”.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, reiterates that “the town councils, as consortium members, must be promptly informed of the entire procedure for resolving this contract”, also recalling that “the current term began with the announcement by the president of an investment of 90 million euros to solve the problems of the integral water cycle, especially supply, and the only thing that the residents of Yaiza and different municipalities confirm is that we continue to endure water cuts every week, moreover, in areas like Yaiza town, the cuts have increased”.

The document emphasizes that “it is essential to fully inform the municipalities integrated into the Lanzarote Water Consortium of what has happened throughout this year”, alluding to the fluctuations regarding this matter that worries, and much, the population as it is an essential service.

Finally, Óscar Noda declares that “in the Consortium's assemblies I have shown myself to be proactive in helping to solve the serious problems we have with water, and when I have had to vote in favor of decisions adopted by the presidency, I have done so, so I ask for total transparency. Yaiza keeps its hand extended.”
