The city of Arrecife joyfully experienced this Ash Wednesday one of its saddest days of the year with the massive Burial of the Sardine and the Pejín, which culminated the program of events prepared by the Department of Festivities, led by the deputy mayor of the Lanzarote capital, Echedey Eugenio, to celebrate Carnival 2025.

The funeral procession departed at 6:00 p.m. from the roundabout of the Arrecife Gran Hotel to Playa de la Rocar, where the Afilarmónica Los Simplones, winner of the adult murgas contest, placed Doña Sardina on the funeral pyre, while the winners of the children's murgas contest, Los Noveleros, did the same with the Pejín, as happened for the first time last year.

Hundreds of masked revelers, including a considerable number of inconsolable but cheerful widows and widowers, including a representation of the municipal government, participated in the route, which had a noise-free zone at its beginning as it passed through the Parque Islas Canarias for people with special sensory abilities, as well as adapted areas for people with reduced mobility.

Along with them, the Afilarmónicas Las Revoltas and Los Tabletúos and the adult murgas Los Intoxicados, Las Inadaptadas, Las Vacilonas, Las Enraladas, Los Desahuciados and Las Faltonas also paraded; as well as the children's murgas Los Intoxicaditos, Los Titiñecos and Los Chau Chau.

The percussion, rhythms and choreographies were provided by the comparsas Sur Caliente, Los Cumbacheros, Los Guaracheros, Los Timanfeiros and Los Yaiseros; as well as the batucadas Menuda Caña, Chimbay, Princesa Attenya and Villa Pipol. As for the floats, the participants were the winners of the first, second and third prize of the Coso on Monday 'Starred in the Jungle of Agramar', 'Aladin The Film' and 'Mad Max' respectively in the category of more than 6 meters in length, as well as the winner of the contest of up to six meters 'Labyrinth of the Faun'.

Two hours after its start, the fireworks announced the conclusion of the Burial of the Sardine and the Pejín, and therefore of a Carnival of Arrecife 2025 that without a doubt, as declared by the Councilor for Festivities of the City Council of the Lanzarote capital and Deputy Mayor Echedey Eugenio, "have been developed in a brilliant way, at the level that the third most important capital of the Canary Islands deserves".
