The 18th Lanzarote International Film Festival, an annual event co-produced by the Cabildo de Lanzarote and Fisme Producciones, will conclude on Saturday, April 28, at 8:00 p.m., with a closing ceremony that will bring together its main protagonists at the El Salinero Theater: the winning filmmakers from the five competition categories and the Official Section Jury.
The show will be hosted by actor Lamberto Guerra (Las Palmas, 1984), who has more than fifteen years of professional experience in acting and also in the world of screenwriting, music and show presentation. In film, he has participated in 'I Hate Tuesdays' and 'Chronicles of Disenchantment'. He is also well known and recognized for his theatrical ('Sherlock Holmes', 'The Mousetrap') and television ('La Revoltosa', 'En Clave de Ja') work.

Lamberto has also directed several award-winning short films inside and outside of Spain, such as 'What is not seen', awarded at the Hendaye International Film Festival (France) and with international distribution, or 'Nice Song', which made him the first Canary Islander to win the award for best original song at the prestigious Fimucité international film music festival, together with Jonay Armas. Currently, Lamberto Guerra is writing the script for his first feature film.
'Old Breathe': contemporary dance for the overture
When dancer and choreographer Acerina Hernández Toledo learned about the number of short films participating in the Lanzarote Film Festival, she decided to create a contemporary dance piece that would express the creative process and, above all, the race against the clock that every creator experiences.
From the muse to the rehearsal, passing through the deadlines and the final delivery. All of that is 'Old Breathe', six minutes of contemporary dance produced by Sala Cúrcuma and a show in which six dancers and teachers from the center will participate: Sara Bertomeu, Luis Miguel Alemán, Reinier Alfonso and Lucía Hernández, in addition to Acerina herself, who will be in the main dance corps. The twenty people who make up the dance and interpretation group of Sala Cúrcuma will also take the stage. Íñigo Labarga will be in charge of the set design and Shelma Zebensuí will be in charge of the lighting design of the overture.
Jury and screening of the awards
Throughout the night, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., the Awards will be screened and the Jury of Documentary Shorts will take the stage, made up of film programmer Irene Silvera, critic Casimiro Torreiro and editor and owner of the Ocho y Medio bookstore, María Silveyro; the Jury of Animated Shorts, made up of actress Marta Nieto and artists Atchen Pounapal and Pepe Vera; the Jury of Canarian Shorts, which includes production director Manuela Ocón, actor Daniel Holguín and representative Araia Asensio; the Jury of National Fiction Short Films, made up of filmmaker Alberto Rodríguez and actresses Cristina Castaño and Marta Viera; and finally the Jury of International Fiction Shorts: filmmaker María Ripoll, actress Verónica Echegui and actor Miguel Mota.
The president of the Festival, Ismael Curbelo, and the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, will also participate, who will present the awards to the winning short filmmakers together with Echedey Eugenio, CEO of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote; Isaac Castellano, Minister of Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, and Jimena Álvarez, Councilor for Culture of the Arrecife City Council. The Minister of Culture of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Óscar Pérez, will also be present as co-organizer of the event.
Sculpture and pre-selection for the Goya Awards
In addition to 1,500 euros in prize money, the filmmakers will receive a sculptural piece designed by the Lanzarote artist Ildefonso Aguilar, inspired by the volcanic and telluric orography of the island landscape. The Best National Fiction Short and the Best Documentary Short (if it is a Spanish production) will become part of the pre-selection for the 2019 Goya Awards.
Tickets, at a price of five euros, can be purchased on the Ecoentradas online sales platform, in the Culture area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, this Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at the box office of the Multicines Atlántida, from 5:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. If there are still tickets available, they will be sold on Saturday from 7:00 p.m. at the box office of the El Salinero Theater.
