The campaign ‘We Are What We Eat’, an initiative of the Government of the Canary Islands to revitalize the traditional markets of the Archipelago, was inaugurated last Saturday March 7 in the Nuestra Señora de África Market of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, to travel to Arrecife next March 14, specifically to its municipal market.

The objective of this project is to promote the consumption of local products, strengthen local commerce and highlight these emblematic spaces as social, cultural and gastronomic meeting points.

"We Are What We Eat" is born from the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands with the promotion and conservation of traditional markets, supporting their evolution towards new models of revitalization without losing their essence: close treatment, the quality and freshness of the product and their unifying role in the life of the municipalities.

The initiative will combine promotional actions, gastronomic activities and cultural proposals aimed at all audiences. The Nuestra Señora de África Market, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, was the starting point for this initiative that seeks to reinforce the sense of belonging, boost the local economy and promote sustainable consumption habits based on zero-kilometer products.

Its tour of the Archipelago will continue  on March 18 and 21 at La Recova Market in Santa Cruz de La Palma and will conclude on Saturday, March 31 at the Central Market of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

With this action, the Government of the Canary Islands reaffirms its commitment to converting traditional markets into living, modern, and competitive spaces, without renouncing their historical identity.
