The fast trial that was going to be held this Wednesday against the woman who was recorded on video allegedly abandoning a cat has finally been suspended without a new date being set for its celebration. And, according to sources close to the case, the defendant's lawyer asked for more time to provide evidence for his defense.

According to La Voz, after the defense's request, it was initially agreed that the oral hearing would start three hours after the initial time, but finally its celebration was suspended today to give the defendant more time. Specifically, according to sources consulted by La Voz, the Court agreed to give the defense five days to provide the elements it considers, pending setting a new date for the trial.

It should be remembered that the case will go to trial after an investigation by the Animal and Environmental Protection Unit of the Local Police, after agents and personnel from the Security and Emergency Consortium were required by the staff of a management company where the animal had entered, which witnesses said had been abandoned by a woman in a lot on Teruel Street.

Subsequently, the agents of the Animal and Environmental Protection Unit of the Local Police had access to a video that was being disseminated on social networks, where the alleged moment of abandonment was seen, which led them to identify the author on July 5, two days after the events were recorded, who turned out to be the mother of the feline's owner, both appearing at the police station.

Once the video released on social networks and the statements of a witness were analyzed, the agents determined that the cat had been "deliberately abandoned on the street, 1.5 kilometers from the home of its owner and caregiver, with the risk of being run over by vehicles" and initiated a report "in the face of what could be described as an alleged crime of animal abandonment", also reflecting that "in the home of the author" lives "another animal", a mixed-breed dog, "that could be a victim of similar events". After that, the Evidence Unit of the Local Police of Arrecife sent to the Courts of the capital the complaint made by the agents of the Animal and Environmental Protection Unit, after which the celebration of a fast trial was set for this Wednesday, which has finally been postponed.
