During the second quarter of this year, Lanzarote registered 146 complaints for crimes of gender violence, according to data provided by the Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence of the General Council of the Judiciary.
Official statistics detail that on the island were reported 99 crimes of injury, 16 breaches of sentence, 13 breaches of precautionary measures, 11 against freedom, four against sexual freedom and indemnity and three against moral integrity.
The figures also reflect an increase in complaints filed in the Canary Islands for alleged gender violence between April and June compared to the same period last year, from 2,280 complaints in 2021 to 2,376 reported in 2022, representing a growth of 4.2%.
As for the number of alleged victims, who in some cases suffered more than one crime, amounts in the second quarter of this year to 2,366, compared to 2,277 in 2021, with an increase of 3.9%.
Regarding the people prosecuted, 749 were those who sat in the dock between April and June 2022, 0.7% more than in the same period of 2021 (744). Of these, 680 were convicted -90.8%-, which is 0.7% less than in the previous spring.
The Observatory's data also reflect that during the second quarter of this year, the Canary Islands had an index of 21.5 victims of gender violence per 10,000 women. Thus, it stood as the fourth autonomous community with the highest rate in the country. Murcia held the highest value, with 28.5, followed by the Balearic Islands, with 27.6 and the Valencian Community, with 24.2 victims per 10,000 women.
Increase in complaints filed by third parties between January and March
In the country as a whole, there were 45,753 complaints of gender violence registered between April and June, while the previous year there were 40,721. The statistics indicate that approximately 70% of the complaints were made by the victims, and the rest by other people.
Those filed by family members, 808 throughout Spain, again represented a very low percentage (1.77%) compared to the total number of complaints. However, those filed by welfare services and third parties in general experienced a new increase, from 1,299 a year ago to 1,766, representing almost four percent (3.86%) of those registered.
Complaints for direct intervention of the State Security Forces (7,162) were 15.66% of the total, with a slight increase compared to the same quarter of the previous year (14.55%).
