The Arrecife Courts registered a total of 130 complaints of gender violence between April and June of this year, 20.3% more than in the first quarter, when 108 complaints were filed in the Lanzarote judicial district. Compared to the same period last year, the increase is even greater, specifically 27.4%, since then 102 complaints were registered.
This is clear from the data of the Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence of the General Council of the Judiciary disseminated by the Data Center of the Cabildo, according to which the ratio of complaints per 10,000 women in Lanzarote was 17.64% in the second quarter of 2019.
Of the 130 complaints registered, 89 were through police reports with a complaint from the victim, 40 by police reports for direct police intervention and one through a report of injuries received directly in the Court. However, there were 36 victims who waived the process.
Of the crimes of gender violence in the Courts of Arrecife in the second quarter of 2019, 95 were for injuries and mistreatment, 13 for crimes against moral integrity, eight for breaches of measures and seven for breaches of sentences. In addition, 16 minor crimes and misdemeanors were registered, 12 for insults and four for unfair harassment.
Canary Islands, again at the head
In the archipelago as a whole, according to the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, the judicial bodies registered a total of 2,471 complaints in the second quarter of 2019, a figure that once again places the Islands at the head in gender violence, with a ratio of 22.6 women per 10,000, the highest in Spain. The national average stood at 16.2 women per 10,000.
