In the plenary session held exceptionally last Friday at Los Jameos del Agua, the Institution approved the modification of the **travel grants** to include a new category for students pursuing studies at **official educational centers outside of Spain**.
This initiative, presented and defended in the plenary session by the nationalist spokesperson Samuel Martín - and which "received unanimous approval except for the socialist abstention".
"We want **no one to have to give up** studying abroad for economic reasons. These grants open up opportunities for our students to grow academically and personally," Betancort has stated.
The Education Department, headed by Ascensión Toledo, will manage the incorporation of this new modality into the regulations. "During this term, we recovered and multiplied travel grants to reach 600,000 euros per call. Now we are taking another step: students pursuing studies abroad will be able to benefit if they meet the established criteria," explained Toledo.
The new modality is aimed at students who meet requirements such as being registered in Lanzarote or La Graciosa, pursuing Higher Level Vocational Training Cycles (CFGS), University Degrees, or Master's degrees in official foreign institutions, and the studies must be entirely in-person and have a minimum duration of 9 months during the academic year established in each call. Furthermore, applicants must meet the academic and administrative criteria defined in the annual aid call.
With this measure, the Cabildo de Lanzarote "broadens horizons for its students, fostering the internationalization of training and ensuring that geographical distance is not an obstacle to achieving new academic and professional goals".Betancort concluded by stating that these aids are much more than financial support: "They are a boost for the talent of our island, a firm step towards a more open and global education."
