The Yaiza City Council commemorated World Tourism Day this Friday with an event in the heart of the tourist town of Playa Blanca, which was especially marked by the municipal tribute to the Puerto Calero marina on its 40th anniversary.

The Consistory exalts the trajectory of the Marinas Calero firm and the business vision of its president José Calero Rodríguez, who proudly, gratefully, and accompanied by his family, received the distinction from the mayor, Óscar Noda, and the Councilor for Tourism, Daniel Medina. Del Carmen square was imaginatively decorated as an airline Rubicón plane, where the public embarked on a peaceful flight to land in a paradise destination called Yaiza. This innovative staging was applauded by the audience and highly valued by representatives of public and private entities linked to tourism, for whom it became quite a surprise.

Óscar Noda described the top representative of Marinas Calero as "a great dreamer, who managed to make his dream a reality that we all enjoy. A reality that gives us a great plus as a tourist destination, highlighting its high commitment to quality and sustainability, because without it, these 40 years of success would not be sustained."

With 450 moorings, top-quality services, and fully conquering the market for megayachts or luxury yachts, Puerto Calero is a reference marina in the Canary Islands that in 2023 once again raised the Blue Flag, for the twenty-eighth consecutive year, the only port in Lanzarote that holds the award. The property is concerned each year to update its environmental policy considering fundamental aspects such as water management, selective collection and waste management, energy consumption, safety and health, as well as the use of ecological products.

José Calero maintained that "I have tried to innovate things that did not exist, and for this you have to take risks and everything has turned out very well, so I maintain the strength and enthusiasm backed by what we have learned along this 40-year adventure path. I feel very grateful."

Within that trajectory exalted by Yaiza, it is worth mentioning in 2012 the distinction from the International Marine Certification Institute, which accredited Puerto Calero as a '5 Blue Star Marina', with the added merit of becoming the first marina in Spain to achieve it. "Puerto Calero is plagued with awards and that demonstrates the strength and responsibility of a company with high aspirations that is a source of pride for Yaiza and Lanzarote," added the mayor.
