Despite the good tourist spending data and occupancy, as well as air connections, the number of passengers from abroad still does not reach pre-pandemic figures in Lanzarote.
Specifically, the island has registered a total of 191,420 international travelers in June, compared to 201,125 in 2019, 4.83% less, according to a report by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.
In any case, if compared to the previous month, the numbers grow by 0.9%, since in May 189,771 passengers arrived from abroad. In addition, the growth is much greater if the data from June 2021 are taken into account, since at that time only 26,511 international tourists came to the island, 622% less than this year. A direct consequence of the strong restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
This impact can also be seen in the accumulated data, which between January and June 2022 is 1,111,959 passengers, compared to the 72,430 accumulated in 2021, a soaring percentage difference of 1,435.2%.
France is the only country that improves the figures
The only issuing country with more than 10,000 visitors that manages to improve its figures compared to the pre-pandemic year is France, with a total of 11,919 passengers, since in 2019 7,882 arrived, that is, 4,037 fewer people.
In any case, the major issuing countries, such as the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany, are on the verge of total recovery before the arrival of the summer high season. In particular, 111,852 have arrived from the United Kingdom (117,068 in 2019), 27,355 from Ireland (in 2019 there were 28,731) and 14,839 from Germany (20,520 in 2019).
