The Barceló Hotel Group chain has announced that it will take over a hotel complex being built by the Hiperdino group in Playa Blanca, according to its co-chairman, Simón Pedro Barceló, this Friday in statements collected by Hosteltur.

The facilities will have 720 rooms and are expected to start operating next year, a strategy that aligns with the renovation of the hotel it manages in Costa Teguise, in an attempt to continue expanding within the Canary Islands.

Simón Pedro Barceló stated that the tourism sector is recovering in the Canary Islands and has been "optimistic and positive" regarding the summer, forecasts supported by the good figures left by Easter in the archipelago.

However, the co-chairman has pointed out that the numbers from the years prior to the pandemic have not yet been reached, which were "record" years, but they have been very close, only 5% below 2019. Therefore, he has also been cautious, as the forecasts could vary due to the international situation, marked by the invasion of Ukraine and inflation.

It should be noted that, last February, Hotel Investment Partners (HIP) and Barceló Hotel Group announced the opening of the first phase of the Barceló Lanzarote Active Resort, facilities that will combine sports, leisure and gastronomy under an investment of 17 million euros.
