The average expenditure per tourist per day in Lanzarote was 151.3 euros in the first quarter of 2022, a figure not reached since the end of 2018, when the figure of 158.3 euros was recorded, according to the Tourist Expenditure Survey of ISTAC, collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.
These numbers show the greater purchasing power of tourists and the recovery of the sector, which is breaking records in many aspects, such as luxury accommodation, sold out months in advance and, all this, without including the Easter period, as it took place in April.
Without going any further, in the previous quarter the average expenditure per tourist per day was 134.6 euros, much lower than that recorded at the beginning of 2022. Furthermore, if compared to 2019, the year before the pandemic, the figure drops to 113.9 euros per person.
Specifically, in January, February and March 2022, tourists spent 67.7 euros on accommodation per person per day, 38.5 on national or international transport, 12.1 on local transport, 22.8 on food, 5.9 on sports or leisure activities, 3.5 on shopping and 80 cents on other expenses.
However, Lanzarote is on the verge of exceeding the average for the archipelago, set at 152.9 euros, which only Gran Canaria manages to exceed, with an average expenditure of 161.8 euros.
In addition, it equals the data with Tenerife (151.3 euros) and rises above Fuerteventura (143.8 euros) and La Palma (134.6 euros). The survey does not reflect the data for La Gomera and El Hierro.
Finally, it should be noted that the total tourist expenditure in the first quarter in Lanzarote was 549,145,479 euros, 1,234.6% more year-on-year, since in the same quarter of 2021 they only invested 41,146,775 euros.
