In the month of April, 54,794 passengers arrived in Lanzarote from different peninsular airports, unprecedented figures in the fourth month of the year, according to a report from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.

Specifically, April registered 28.8% more passenger traffic than the previous month, when 42,556 passengers arrived from the peninsula, and, if compared to 2021, the figures improve by 311%, since only 13,331 came.

In addition, last month has far exceeded pre-pandemic figures, since in April 2019 only 40,852 passengers arrived, that is, 13,942 passengers less than this year.

This is mainly due to the increase in air connections during Holy Week compared to previous years between the archipelago and the peninsula. Specifically, Lanzarote had 57,511 national air seats in April, which is 27.5% more than in the pre-coronavirus era.

By autonomous communities, passengers from Madrid were the most common in Lanzarote, with 25,137 travelers (18,984 in 2019), followed by Catalonia with 9,672 passengers (6,489 in 2019) and Galicia with 5,453 (4,094 in 2019).

Also, in April 2022, 5,096 travelers arrived from the Basque Country, 5,197 from the different airports of Andalusia and two passengers from the Balearic Islands.

The most significant increases, compared to 2019, have been recorded by the Valencian Community, which triples its figures, with 3,219 passengers compared to 1,106 in 2019. For its part, the Principality of Asturias has practically doubled its numbers, going from 575 passengers in 2019 to 1,018 last April.

Finally, it should be remembered that the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands also encouraged these connections with its “Blessed Holy Week” campaign, so that national tourists would choose the archipelago for their vacations, under the premises of sun and beach.
