The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, on behalf of the government group of the City Council, formed by PSOE, Lanzarote Avanza (LAVA) and Lanzarote en Pie-Sí Podemos, visited the new facilities of the Riu Paraiso Lanzarote Resort hotel together with the Councilor for Urban Planning, Ulpiano Calero, and the technical advisor for Tourism, Domingo Lorenzo, and congratulated its managers and workers for “the magnificent reconversion” carried out in recent months.
“This city council has promoted modernization plans to promote the improvement of the quality of tourist infrastructures, both public and private. We recognize the effort of companies to invest in the reconversion of their spaces, especially during a crisis as serious as the one caused by covid-19,” said José Juan Cruz.
The municipal representation was received by the hotel director, Miguel Ortega, and by the legal advisor of Riu Hotels, Águeda Borges, who explained that the total investment in these works, including decorative elements, furniture and linen, among others, amounts to 25.5 million euros.

The company has made a significant effort to execute the works in a period of four months and offer a new image based on open spaces, minimalist decoration and nature with its large gardens and outdoor areas.
Energy efficiency has been taken into account, with hot water supply through photovoltaic panels, accessibility and safety. In fact, the large buffet area has been closed with large glass windows and automatic entrance and exit doors as a bubble space separated from the dining rooms.
Some of the hotel's new features include the 24-hour lobby bar in the spacious area of the renovated reception or the restaurants next to the pools called “Pepe´s food”. Riu Hotel Lanzarote Resort, located next to Los Pocillos beach and the promenade of Avenida de las Playas, has more than 500 renovated rooms, 4 outdoor pools (some heated) with a solarium area and 2 children's pools, RiuArt workshop and RiuLand Kid´s Club for the little ones and show areas for adults.

The Tías City Council is working to definitively approve the III Plan for Modernization, Improvement and Increase of Competitiveness of Puerto del Carmen, which includes numerous private interventions to improve accommodation infrastructures and also large-scale public actions such as the implementation of a health center and an international diving center in the Playa Chica area.
