The Nautilus Lanzarote artistic residency has made official the name of a dozen artists who will be part of its calendar for the coming year. In collaboration with Confluencias (Cantabria) and Galería Lumbreras (Basque Country).
On September 30, the deadline closed for artists to send their proposals to the Nautilus Lanzarote Residency. Finally, more than 260 artists from different geographical contexts such as Spain, the United Kingdom, the USA, Costa Rica, Nigeria or Poland, among others, were presented. Among all of them, Jesús Madriñán (Santiago de Compostela, 1984), Javier Palacios (Cádiz, 1985), Arancha Goyeneche (Cantabria, 1967), Antonio Guerra (Zamora, 1983), Abel Jaramillo (Badajoz, 1993), Pablo Merchante (Seville, 1979), Megan Harrison (Colorado, USA, 1981), Almudena Lobera (Madrid, 1984) and Helena Toraño (Asturias, 1984) have been selected.
Added to these is the Portuguese Bruno Leitão, who will be the first curator to join the group of residents, and the artists who in the coming months will be chosen through Confluencias (Cantabria) and Galería Lumbreras (Basque Country), both programs with a clear interest in supporting artists of short or mid career.
With each residency, lasting one month, the artist has a grant to cover travel expenses, a double apartment, a fully equipped studio/workshop, full board and materials and means for the production of his/her work. The call is open all year round and all artists who want to be part of the 2025 calendar can submit their proposal until September 2024. The main objective of the residency is to contribute to the culture of the island, hence the continuous collaborations with local institutions and agents, generating professional relationships that are reflected in exhibitions, conferences or workshops.
"Our residency program is special both for the place where it is located, a wonderful island like Lanzarote, with a unique landscape and energy, and for our experience in welcoming artists and making them feel at home, making available all the means to put aside their day to day and focus on what they have come to: create and continue to grow as artists," says Ana Piñel, art coordinator of Nautilus.
Nautilus Lanzarote is an artist residency that is part of a complex of 70 four-star apartments located in Puerto del Carmen. It is part of the Red Artis international residency network and has been inviting artists for more than 18 years (more than 100 artists from 20 nationalities). Names such as Graciela Iturbide, Juan Zamora, Gabriela Bettini, Jon Cazenave, Hugo Alonso, Avelino Sala, Ana H. del Amo, Damaris Pan, Gala Knörr, Julio Sarramián, Silvia Lermo, Nori Ushijima, María Carbonell or Miss Beige, among a large group of artists, have passed through the residence.
