Lanzarote starts the year with 10% more foreign tourists

National tourism decreases slightly in January after experiencing great growth last year

In 2023, Lanzarote received 11% more foreign tourists than the previous year, 300,000 more, totaling 2.69 million people, according to the Lanzarote Data Center based on figures from the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC).

Regarding the aforementioned increase, the year 2024 begins with a 10% increase in arrivals from foreign airports compared to January of last year. Last month, 226,599 tourists arrived from other countries

The majority were British (116,569), followed by Irish (29,091), German (28,922) and French (13,941)

Just over 8,000 travelers arrived from the Netherlands, while more than 7,000 came from Italy, and almost 5,000 travelers came from Belgium in January. 

About 2,000 travelers from each of the following countries also enjoyed their holidays in Lanzarote: Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Switzerland, Finland and Norway.  

 

National tourism falls

Meanwhile, national tourism, which increased by 10.8% in 2023 to a total of 741,190 travelers, fell by 3.3% in the first month of 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year. 

In January, 50,855 tourists arrived from peninsular Spain, almost half flew from Madrid, while one in five flew from Barcelona. 

5,538 travelers arrived from Andalusian airports, 3,957 from Galicia, while 3,726 arrived from the Basque Country. 

Asturias and the Valencian Community complete the table, with around 2,000 people departing from each community.
