Increasingly, Lanzarote is the destination chosen by thousands of Spaniards from the peninsula to spend their holidays. During the first quarter of the year, 152,920 passengers arrived at Lanzarote airport from national airports, excluding inter-island traffic.
That was 32.4% more than arrived last year, but it has also been almost 50,000 more people than arrived in the same period of 2019, according to the Lanzarote Data Center.
The growth compared to 2022 could be attributed in part to the end of the anti-covid measures that greatly restricted the movement capacity of passengers. In the same period, foreign tourism has grown by 28%.
However, the comparison of arrivals from the peninsula between January and March of this year, with the figures from the first quarter of 2019, the reference year prior to the covid 19 pandemic, shows a growth slightly above 40%. Arrivals from the peninsula were then 105,805.
The growth of peninsular tourism is more evident when observing the arrival data from foreign airports. International tourists during the first quarter of the year were 663,308 people, which represents an increase of 2.7% compared to the first quarter of 2019, when 645,400 people arrived.
