The Teguise City Council has published a tender with a budget of 50,000 euros to operate on some of the problems that affect the palm tree population in Costa Teguise.

The works may extend for six months and are located on the five main avenues of the tourist town: Las Palmeras, Las Cucharas, Islas Canarias, del Mar and El Jablillo.

According to the council, for several years now, "the drought and the proliferation of diseases are very negatively affecting the health of the most representative and widespread species in our parks and gardens."

The Councilor of the Area, Nieves Martínez, points out that it is about going beyond a "mere aesthetic action". "The palm grove of Costa Teguise and the entire municipality are a sign of identity of our town and we are aware that the neighbors are especially sensitive to its proper care and maintenance."

For her part, the mayor Olivia Duque highlights the efforts made by the Parks and Gardens Area, and points out that "it is essential to help combat the spread of pests and diseases."

"We are especially concerned about the presence of diseases that have been affecting some of our palm tree specimens, and we expect a significant positive impact on the health of the specimens that we are going to treat in large areas of Costa Teguise," says the first mayor.

Companies specialized in this type of work may apply for the contracting of their services through a tender, which will allow the Teguise City Council to receive offers until September 11 on the State Contracting Platform.
