The airline Iberia Express reinforces its operations with Lanzarote

The general secretary of Coalición Canaria, Fernando Clavijo, has demanded this Monday that the routes between the Canary Islands and Madrid be excluded from the ten-day strike that the USO union has called at Iberia Express from August 28 to September 6.

The senator for the Autonomous Community also states that Iberia Express "occupies almost all flights on the Canary Islands-Madrid route; especially on islands such as Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Palma, so a strike affecting that route with Madrid would cause enormous damage to the connectivity of the Canary Islands".

For the nationalist leader, it is "essential" that, should the TCP strike prosper, the connections between Madrid and the Canary Islands operated by this low cost company should be fully included within the framework of minimum services or, directly, outside the proposed strike. "Only in this way will a serious problem for the Canary Islands be avoided, which could be almost isolated from the capital," he says. It should be remembered that, in addition to Iberia Express, in the case of Lanzarote it has connections with Madrid through Ryanair and Air Europa.

According to Clavijo, "the deadlock in negotiations between the USO union and Iberia Express bodes ill". "Regardless of the reason for the demands made by the TCPs and their right to strike, the connectivity of the Canary Islands with Madrid must be guaranteed, which, right now, is almost entirely in the hands of this low cost company," he insisted.
