The Canary Islands received 1.4 million international tourists during the month of February, which represents 26.8% of the state total, which stood at 5.4 million in a record month in which the figure increased by 7.7% compared to the same period of 2024.
According to figures published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), these international tourists spent 7.6% more in the country as a whole, up to 7.26 billion euros, with the autonomous community of the Canary Islands once again registering the highest expenditure of all: 2.26 billion euros.
In the first two months of the year, 10.5 million travelers from abroad entered, 6.9% more than in January-February 2024.
During that time, the accumulated spending increased by 8.3% and reached 14.392 billion euros, as a result of the rise in average daily spending, which has been growing steadily since the end of the pandemic and as of February stands at 183 euros per person, 5.5% more.
However, the average expenditure per tourist on each trip remained at 1,345 euros compared to a year earlier, reflecting the fall in the number of days of the stay.
Tourists from the United States grow by more than 10%
The United Kingdom was the main country of residence of tourists arriving in February, with one million and an increase of 6.8% compared to the same month of 2024. 719,366 tourists arrived from France (15.9% more) and 616,766 tourists from Germany (4.1% more).
Between the three nationalities in the first two months, they added 4.4 million travelers in January-February, more than 40% of the total.
In terms of aggregate spending, the United Kingdom, Germany and Nordic countries lead the list, ahead of France, and in average daily spending the highest records are those of the "rest of the world" (which includes, among others, Asians), with 222 euros.
Almost 184,000 travelers arrived from the United States in February, totaling 376,756 in the first two months of the year, with increases of more than 10% in both cases, reflecting the strength of this market.
However, the most significant growth in February was that of Switzerland, with an increase of 30.2% over February 2024 and 115,052 tourists.
