The regional public company Visocan (Social Housing of the Canary Islands) has proposed to private developers that they build homes and transfer them for 25 years for rent at affordable prices, given the lack of supply in the market.

To this end, Visocan has called a competition procedure whereby the selected developers will receive a guaranteed price per square meter of useful area of each home and its linked annex (garage or storage room) for an initial period of fifteen years, extendable for periods of five years.

The call details all the priority municipalities of the archipelago, which in Lanzarote are Arrecife, Haría, San Bartolomé, Teguise, Tinajo and Yaiza. That is, all except Tías, although Visocan has clarified that if the properties are in other municipalities "it will not be a reason for rejection or exclusion".

Visocan has reported in a statement that the objective is to facilitate access for families to rental housing in areas where there is not enough supply to meet existing demand at affordable prices.

The procedure establishes that the properties that can benefit from this transfer of management of protected housing of general regime to be built must be complete buildings in which all the elements that compose it will be included.

It is recommended that the houses have up to three bedrooms and a useful area of between 40 and 75 meters square, with only one attached element per house, garage (25 square meters maximum) or storage room.
