The average delinquency in 2024 among Canarians who live on rent and have not paid some of their monthly payments amounted to 6,180 euros, 6.79% more than what was recorded the previous year.
The average debt of tenants increases continuously year after year, in step with the rise in prices and despite the fact that the fall in supply has led to a decrease in the signing of new lease contracts, which should reduce the average.
This is clear from the latest study on the 'Situation of Delinquency in Renting in Spain' published by the Rental Observatory, which nationally has detected an average debt of 7,957 euros, 4.23% more than the previous year.
If we look at the average amount owed, the Canary Islands is located right in the middle, with eight autonomous communities above and eight below, but, if the amount owed is related to the average rental price, the Canary Islands, together with La Rioja, is the region where the fewest monthly payments are owed, equivalent to six months of rent.
By region, Catalonia registers the highest delinquency, with an average of 10,996 euros, followed closely by Balearic Islands, where the debt amounts to 10,233 euros.
In the Community of Madrid, on the other hand, tenants failed to pay a total of 9,812 euros, while in the Basque Country they owed 8,372.
Andalusia and Navarra, with an average debt of 7,278 and 7,012 euros respectively, are located around the national average.
The region of Murcia (6,977) and the Valencian Community (6,680 euros) also exceed 6,000 euros, in addition to the Canary Islands.
In the rest of the regions, the average delinquency ranges between 3,000 and 6,000 euros. In Cantabria (5,701 euros), Ceuta (5,531), Galicia (5,399), Castilla-La Mancha (5,326), Aragon (5313), Melilla (4829), Asturias (4,718), Castilla y León (4,321), La Rioja (3,882) and Extremadura (3,385).
