The Local Committee of the Canarian Coalition in Arrecife has held a meeting with the spokesperson for the Nationalist Group in the Arrecife City Council and Deputy Mayor, Echedey Eugenio, and the Councilor for Urban Planning, Maciot Cabrera, to learn in detail the current status of the document of the Supplementary General Plan of Arrecife, which is about to be validated in the municipal plenary session, for its initial approval by the Government of the Canary Islands.

During the meeting, Eugenio and Cabrera explained the progress and benefits that this document will bring for the orderly development of the city.

Regarding urban development, the Plan is committed to the elimination of land assignments which, according to the Canarian Coalition in a statement, "has condemned the development of land in the past." Thus, "if it is already difficult to develop a land, imagine when you make it dependent on other owners with different interests as it happened in the previous plan," said Echedey Eugenio.

The Plan, added the nationalist spokesperson, will also be committed to accommodating the partial plans inherited from the previous plan, betting on "giving economic viability to the lands that in the current planning have lacked the necessary initiative." Echedey Eugenio stressed that "we are committed to providing a real solution to the housing problem that our city suffers."

And one of the most outstanding novelties of the Supplementary Plan is the increase of developable land destined for Officially Protected Housing (VPO), going from 10% to 30%.

In this sense, Echedey Eugenio insisted that "this increase responds to the need to address the housing deficit in Arrecife, guaranteeing decent access to housing for many families and fulfilling an electoral commitment of the Canarian Coalition."

Another key point of the document is the regularization of more than 450 homes in the scattered area of Las Vírgenes and the Camino de Güime. "This plan will finally give legal certainty to the residents, collecting land typologies that make it compatible for these areas to be adapted by the City Council once and for all," said the Councilor for Urban Planning, Maciot Cabrera.

The Supplementary Plan also contemplates the ordering of the Tenorio industrial area, which will boost economic development and business activity in Arrecife. In this sense, Cabrera stated that "the regulation of this area is key to generating employment opportunities and improving the competitiveness of local businesses."

Finally, the local secretary of the Canarian Coalition in Arrecife, Jacobo Lemes, highlighted the importance of this initiative for the future of the Lanzarote capital. "This Supplementary Plan is the result of serious and committed work, which seeks to combine the interests of citizens and owners to achieve a fair and balanced document."

During their presentation to the Committee, the nationalist leaders wanted to make it clear that "they are prepared to face the complicated political panorama that is presented by those who do not want Arrecife to move forward."

"We are aware that now the pressures and interested accusations regarding the document will begin by those of always with the sole interest that the Plan does not develop but we will not give in, the general interest and that of the city is above that of a few who only want to paralyze to continue in the status in which they handle so well," they stressed.
