Illegal housing occupations in the province of Las Palmas fell by 23.59% in the first seven months of the year. The decrease for the entire Canary Islands is 15.41% since in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife the decrease was only 3.6%.
The data comes from the Ministry of the Interior and does not differentiate between usurpations (occupations of properties owned by banks or empty houses) or home break-ins (when a habitual residence is occupied, whether it is a first or second residence).
Crimes of this type in the Canary Islands went from 331 to 280 between January and July of this year, in relation to the first seven months of 2021.
In the whole of Spain, illegal housing occupation has decreased by 5.4% in the first seven months of 2022 compared to the same period of 2021, which represents the first decrease in this type of crime in the last five years.
The data from the Statistical Service of Criminality of the Secretary of State for Security show that between January and July 10,220 crimes of this type were registered, compared to 10,807 in the same months of the previous year.
The decreases occur in all autonomous communities except the Valencian Community, where it grows by 23%, Extremadura, 5%, and Murcia, 3%.
In the rest there have been decreases, the most pronounced in the Balearic Islands, where they fell by 31%. In the Community of Madrid it has been 15%, in Catalonia 6% and in Andalusia also 6%.
