The call for general and young rental aid from the Canary Islands government for 2022-2023 is now available. The budget for the aid reaches 21.3 million euros, 22% more than in the previous call, with which it is expected to benefit more than 7,700 families.

Applications for aid can be submitted until November 10 and are intended for the most vulnerable families and young people whose income is equal to or less than 23,724 euros per year, in the general category.

The main recipients of this aid will be those of legal age and residents in Spain who have a housing rental contract in the Canary Islands and who meet the rent price limit and certain income conditions. Within the profiles of applicants, this aid will prioritize large or single-parent families; cohabitation units that include victims of gender violence or cohabitation units that include people with functional diversity with a degree equal to or greater than 33%.

The application for this aid will be made through the Canarian Housing Institute (ICAVI), which this year once again has the collaboration of the Canarian chambers of commerce to speed up procedures and resolve doubts.

The aid now covers 50% of the rent and can be requested to rent a room

This call has several new features promoted by the Canarian Housing Institute to increase the number of potential beneficiaries. Among them, for the first time the call for general rental aid adds among its requirements the possibility of applying for the subsidy for the rental of a room, while in previous calls only the rental of an entire home was contemplated. This measure is promoted with the aim of reaching the youngest people in the Canary Islands, since for the second consecutive year the aid includes the subsidy for those under 35 years of age.

On the other hand, the amount of aid has been increased, going from 40% subsidizable to 50% of the rent, thus obtaining an increase in the subsidy in their rental receipts within the period from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023.

As a final novelty, this rental aid has raised the limit of the maximum monthly rent paid by tenants for their homes; that is, in previous calls, aid was given to those who paid up to 500 euros in rent, and with the call that is published today, that limit is increased to 600 euros. Cases of large families or cohabitation units with people with disabilities who can reach up to 700 euros are excluded.

The ICAVI will continue, as in previous calls, using the weighting method in this line of aid with the aim of reaching the most vulnerable families, until the budget allocation is exhausted. Those who require this aid have a period of 15 days to submit their application in person at the headquarters of the Canarian Housing Institute by requesting an appointment, at the Chambers of Commerce or at any of the official registers of town halls, councils and Post Offices. It can also be requested electronically, through the electronic headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands.

The Canarian Housing Institute, in collaboration with the Chambers of Commerce, has enabled several telephone assistance and support lines. The Ministry has also launched a campaign through a specific website that will allow people who want to apply for this aid to know first-hand the requirements and conditions for their application.
