The Canary Islands Agency for the Protection of the Natural Environment (ACPMN), which reports to the Department of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion, and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, has opened a total of five cases in Lanzarote for the construction of prefabricated homes on unauthorized land. Sources from the Agency have informed La Voz that these homes are spread across four municipalities on the island.

In total, since 2024, the Agency has opened two cases in the municipality of Tías, one in Tinajo, another in Teguise, and another in Arrecife.

According to the information provided by councilor Manuel Miranda a week ago, the sanctions could be considered serious to very serious, depending on the affected land, and could involve financial penalties of between 6,000 and 600,0000 euros, or 100% of the value of what was installed. In addition, these procedures require the removal or demolition of the illegal installation.

In total, in the Canary Islands, 44 cases have been opened for installing these prefabricated homes on unauthorized land. The Ministry has reminded that this type of installation does not imply that urban, environmental and territorial regulations do not have to be complied with.

The requirements for establishing a prefabricated house on a plot of land are the same as for a traditional house. Therefore, they must be built on urban land and with the necessary permits.

By island, Fuerteventura (seventeen) is the one with the most open cases, followed by Tenerife (sixteen), Lanzarote (five), Gran Canaria (four), La Gomera (one), and La Palma (one).
