The Housing Department will allocate a budget of 300,000 euros for the improvement of accessibility and energy modernization of Canary Island homes, representing a 50% discount for applicants, as published in the call for the "Canary Rehabilitation", in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC).

The Minister Sebastián Franquis, through the Canary Housing Institute, maintains that this aid will mean improvements in the safety or accessibility of homes, such as the installation of elevators, ramps or any measure that facilitates autonomy. In addition, actions in the area of conservation, such as the adaptation of habitability or adaptation to current regulations of electricity installations, will also be subsidized.

Finally, energy efficiency and sustainability improvements such as improving thermal insulation, installing heating systems or improvements to the plumbing network, renewable energy generation equipment or the implementation of technologies such as thermal solar panels, among other activities, will be considered.

However, the subsidy will have a limit of 6,000 euros per dwelling, and the actions may be carried out in both urban and rural areas, in single-family homes or in residential buildings, provided that they constitute the habitual and permanent residence of the owners and the antiquity is at least three months at the time of applying for the aid.

The deadline for submitting applications will come into effect this Friday, May 13 and can be done electronically, through the electronic headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands, or physically in any official registry.

It should be noted that, in the previous call, the Icavi managed to execute 100% of the budget, including for the first time the actions aimed at reducing energy consumption, through photovoltaic installations, thermal or acoustic insulation, replacement of enclosures and carpentry, among others.
