The official data from the Canarian Employment Observatory show that "Yaiza remains at the forefront of the decrease in unemployment in Lanzarote", as corroborated by the analysis of last July by said body that guides the regional government in matters of employment and professional training, which locates in the municipality "the largest percentage drop in unemployment on the Island."

Yaiza has 579 unemployed out of the total of 8,233 in Lanzarote, which represents for the southern municipality a variation of minus 4.5% compared to the month of June, while Lanzarote registers an overall decrease of 0.6%.

Óscar Noda, also responsible for the area of Economy and Finance, reads the July statistics recalling that “Yaiza's data is by no means circumstantial, since last year we were the municipality in the Canary Islands with the lowest rate of job seekers", according to the consolidated data of Active Population 2022 published by the Canarian Institute of Statistics.

"A behavior that we believe should be taken into account by the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands in a social, educational and economic dimension. We lead the island's tourism industry and we are the most investing City Council, so Yaiza is a good example of the union of forces of the public and private sectors.”

Óscar Noda specifies that “if one of the objectives of the Employment Observatory is to help the Canarian Government to plan actions aimed at facilitating the labor insertion of our people into the labor market, then the statistics confirm that tourism cannot give work to the entire active population of the island and consequently it is necessary to reach a consensus to further promote training at all educational levels and promote other productive areas such as the primary sector or renewable energies.”

"Public initiative projects that combine learning, professional qualification and work are an alternative to moderate unemployment and youth unemployment," he adds. In a scenario in which the highest rate of job seekers, taking into account the specific variable of educational level, is located in the island population with primary education studies.

"Reinforce home care for dependent neighbors and the dynamization of activities for the elderly”

The new Councilor for Social Services of Yaiza, Karina Centeno, confirms that "Yaiza is preparing a proposal for the Training Programs in Alternation with Employment (PFAE) of the Canarian Employment Service, with the purpose of "reinforcing home care for dependent neighbors and the dynamization of activities for the elderly”.

Apart from also satisfying other demands for municipal services in areas such as "environment, gardening or masonry", advance the Councilor for Employment and Mobile Park of Yaiza, Rubén Arca, and the Councilor for Youth, Daniel Medina.
