In Lanzarote, at the end of June, there were 11,447 workers registered with Social Security in the accommodation services section, which includes hotels and apartments, representing 22.7% more than in 2019. Also, 12.4% more than in 2022.

This is the largest percentage increase among the islands of the archipelago and doubles the Canary Islands average.

In the Canary Islands as a whole, there are currently 74,478 workers in the sector, 10.59% more than in the same period of 2019. Compared to 2022, the increase in employees of accommodation establishments registered was 8.1% throughout the archipelago, according to data published by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) based on information provided by the National Institute of Social Security and analyzed by the Observatory of Tourism Competitiveness and Sustainability of the Ashotel employers' association.

These figures, Ashotel highlights, "confirm the path of recovery after the pandemic, which has already been manifesting itself in the classic indicators of accommodated travelers and overnight stays, also in the employment generated by the hotel sector."

The Exception of La Palma

In La Palma, the tourism crisis continues after the volcanic eruption, and there are 754 affiliates, which represents 6.6% less than in 2019 and 4.3% less than in June 2022.

The island has 2,500 fewer accommodation places open in relation to 2019, due to the closure of the tourist center of Puerto Naos, in addition to the fact that other small establishments were buried by the lava flows.

Accommodation services account for 42% of the total affiliations to Social Security in terms of activities considered tourist.

The other 58% corresponds to the rest of the activities, such as food and beverage services, passenger transport, rental of passenger transport equipment, travel agencies or cultural services and sports activities, among others.
