The Arrecife City Council welcomed this morning the 49 people who will be part of the municipal staff for the next 12 months within the 2024-2025 Social Employment Program. The event, held in the Municipal Archive, was attended by the Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the Councilor for Employment, Maciot Cabrera, who highlighted "the importance of this initiative for improving employability and strengthening municipal services."
This program, financed with a subsidy of 713,191.38 euros from the Canarian Employment Service (623,759.72 euros for infrastructure and 92,976.54 euros for cleaning), aims to promote the labor inclusion of unemployed individuals, especially those over 45 years of age without sufficient contributions for retirement benefits.
The hired individuals will perform functions in various areas, such as masonry, plumbing, gardening, maintenance of public infrastructure, cleaning of municipal spaces, and administrative support in different departments of the City Council. Among the tasks to be developed, the rehabilitation of sports and educational facilities, the conservation of landscaped areas, the cleaning of beaches and playgrounds, as well as the improvement of public transport maintenance stand out.
The mayor, Yonathan de León, recalled that "Arrecife leads the decrease in unemployment in Lanzarote, and the dynamism promoted by the City Council supports the creation of new jobs by private initiative. However, it is necessary to promote social employment plans to give families opportunities to get ahead."
Yonathan de León thanked the members of that plan for "their dedication to the city and reminded them that their work, in the different areas, makes possible the progress of Arrecife as a capital."
For his part, the Councilor for Employment, Maciot Cabrera, stressed the importance of the program as a fundamental pillar for the social and economic development of the municipality. "With this initiative, we not only give a job opportunity to people who need it, but we also improve the quality of life in Arrecife with essential actions for the maintenance and beautification of our city," explained Cabrera, highlighting the City Council's commitment to job creation and the improvement of municipal services.
"Our goal is for Arrecife to continue advancing and for each resident to have better opportunities. With this program, we contribute to a more cared-for city and give a real boost to those seeking a job opportunity," said the councilor.
