Representatives of the airline Vueling have announced this Monday the launch of a connection between the airports of Guacimeta and Fiumicino, in Rome, starting next winter season. The company has been awarded this route contemplated in the program of the Flight Development Fund launched by the Government of the Canary Islands. Tickets to fly to Rome will be on sale "shortly", according to reports.
This is one of the most important news of the workshop held this Monday at the Arrecife Gran Hotel, with the presence of Silvia Estivill, Ignacio Bosch and María Teresa Calderón, from the departments of Institutional Relations, Routes and Sales of Vueling, and representatives of Turismo Lanzarote and the island's tourism sector.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, was responsible for welcoming the attendees to the event. In his speech, San Ginés pointed out "the notable role played by Vueling in the strategy of recovery of the national market designed by Turismo Lanzarote" and highlighted the recent opening of the route with the Parisian airport of Orly, and the one planned for the end of the year with the Roman airport of Fiumicino, as "proof that supports the good results that the airline is obtaining in its operation with the island".
In constant growth since 2004
Silvia Estivill was in charge of presenting the evolution of the airline since its creation. In 2004, Vueling operated 4 flights between Barcelona-El Prat and Ibiza. Today, the airline has more than 100 aircraft and operates 325 routes, with more than 11,000 connection possibilities via Barcelona, after adopting a series of key measures such as its listing on the Stock Exchange, in 2006, and its merger with Clickair, in 2009, among others. Estivill pointed out quality and safety, cost reduction, services and innovation as "strengths" for the development of the company.
His colleague Ignacio Bosch, for his part, spoke to present the company's route plan and advanced the possibility of opening a second HUB (airport that a company uses as a transfer point to cover its destinations) at the Italian airport of Fiumicino, in Rome, a circumstance that will allow the company to offer its customers a connection with Lanzarote at the end of this year. The co-marketing campaigns carried out with Turismo Lanzarote, and those that will be carried out in the near future, were other axes of work addressed during the day.
Vueling is one of the most prominent and stable partners of Turismo Lanzarote in the national market. Currently it connects the island with the airports of Barcelona, Bilbao, Malaga, Seville and Asturias, routes to which we must add the Paris-Orly route, inaugurated last March. In total, in this year 2015, Vueling will offer 249,020 seats to the island, which represents 42.8% more than in 2014.
