The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has presented the work lines of the new plenary session until 2026. Before a hundred of business, social and political representatives, its president, José Valle, has defined the strategy that the new business directive of the island will follow. The most remarkable fact is the participation of external advisors, of recognized prestige, in the four commissions that articulate the roadmap of the business corporation. Tourism, professional training, ports and the Lanzarote 2030 commission are the main areas that will bring together the lines of work.

The presentation ceremony was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumption of the Government of the Canary Islands, Justo Artiles, who highlighted the importance of the unity of all the agents involved in the socioeconomic sector of the archipelago.
The supervisory body of the Canary Islands Chambers of Commerce has highlighted the good work and strength of the Chambers of Commerce as an indispensable tool to be taken into account.
For José Valle, president of the Chamber, “the current tourism model, so often questioned, is one of the great challenges we must face. We must think about what suits us in global terms, taking into account all the factors and especially the people who live in Lanzarote.” Valle considers it essential to give an opportunity to all the productive sectors of the island so that they become direct suppliers of the tourism sector. Promote a real circular economy and facilitate the consumption of local products. This model minimizes the role that the tour operator has had until now and prioritizes direct sales, offering value to the experience to gain in quality.
Professional Training will be key
To make it possible, it is vital to improve our training offer and raise it to a range in which it is desirable to study in our Vocational Training centers. The vice president, Carmen Martinón, is in charge of this commission, for whom good qualification in Vocational Training is essential, especially on an island that lacks a university. The aim is to professionalize in different areas: those of services that feed our main sector, but also in emerging sectors such as digitization, sustainability or subjects linked to the singularity of Lanzarote: the blue economy, green or orange economy (culture).
The transformation of Arrecife
Another aspect that will be decisive in this legislature is that of Arrecife, within the Lanzarote 2030 commission. The capital of the island will undergo a profound transformation in the coming years. For this, the Metrópoli Foundation is participating, in whose curriculum there are similar success stories. Its founder Alfonso Vegara is another of the external advisors that the Chamber will have. It is one of the main objectives of the plenary session, which arrives at the chamber entity with this illusion turned into a purpose, as its president has pointed out during the presentation of the strategic lines.
The ports and the airport will be addressed from a commission that brings together all the members of the port community to generate communication flows. “Now that the port of Arrecife has an important infrastructure after the improvements made in investment, it is time to market its services and generate movement, serving as support to the port of Las Palmas in the areas in which we can do so”, Valle explained.
Special attention deserves the eighth island, which has a representative in the plenary session who is also a member of the executive committee. Miguel Páez will be responsible for articulating the needs of the companies of La Graciosa and transforming them into action plans and solutions.
The challenge of Lanzarote
Luis Alvarado, external advisor of the Chamber of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, has shared his vision about the opportunities offered by Lanzarote in a context that could be apocalyptic if it were not because it represents an opportunity to do things differently. Alvarado has provided solutions for companies to adapt to climate change and we can all build the island we should be.
