The Lanzarote Tourism Federation "trusts" that the island will drop to alert level 1 this week, when the Canary Islands Government Council is held, which reviews the levels of each island every Thursday. In this regard, the business association describes the epidemiological indicators registered in Lanzarote in recent days as "optimal", and hopes that the regional government will consider lowering the alert "taking into account the continued and sustained decrease in new cases of coronavirus".

The Federation recalls that this Tuesday, the accumulated incidence at 7 days was 20.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and at 14 days it had dropped to 57.8, leaving behind the high rates of more than 90 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. "Other parameters have also been reduced favorably," they emphasize, referring to positivity and hospital pressure. In fact, this Wednesday there are no Covid patients admitted to the Molina Orosa Hospital.

For the Island Tourism Federation, this measure "would be a boost for hospitality establishments, tourist accommodation and other tourist activities, by allowing greater capacity and flexibility of measures included in level 1." And they recall that Lanzarote has been at level 2 for three months, which has meant a limitation for the economic activities most affected by the restrictions.

"We understand that with the current data and a sustained downward trend, now is the time for Lanzarote and La Graciosa to move to level 1," says the president of the Federation, Susana Pérez. However, the Federation appeals to "the prudence of citizens, compliance with covid measures and the maintenance of control and surveillance by the city councils to avoid repeating risky situations."

"It is true that the island has reached optimal indicators in the evolution of the pandemic and it is really a satisfaction for everyone, but responsibility must be our first exercise and not forget that every time there is a little relaxation the data turns against us and we do not want to return to past scenarios," warns Pérez.
