The project for the expansion of the Naos Dock, in Arrecife de Lanzarote, continues with its works according to the planned work plan, with the installation of the fourth caisson, which is expected to improve its operability and efficiency.
As the Port Authority of Las Palmas has pointed out in a statement, the dock is projected with a length of 149.70 linear meters and a superstructure width of 13 meters, in addition to a 37x30.50 meter ro-ro ramp with access through the Naos breakwater.
This expansion would allow the ramp demanded by traffic to be located at the southern end of the new dock, as well as a berthing line with an attached esplanade sheltered from SSW component weather.
The preparation of the seabed to generate a stable base has been followed by the construction in situ of the modules that will form the structure, thanks to the Mar del Teide floating dock, and finally, the placement of the caissons.
The first module was placed on August 14, the second was anchored on August 24, the third was located on September 1, and the fourth on September 8.
The president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, has highlighted the "added value that it will bring to the Port of Arrecife, to the companies that work there and, in general, to the entire island, to have an expansion that will improve its operability and efficiency."
In addition to the four caissons already positioned, there are currently two other modules docked at the quay waiting for their final location (linked to weather conditions).
The Mar del Teide will have finished the construction of the seventh and last caisson of the new structure in the middle of this month of September.
The aforementioned floating dock docked in the Port of Arrecife at the end of May and began building the first caisson last July, after the assembly phase of the facilities necessary to start manufacturing.
According to the technical report, the five dock caissons will have a length of 32.40 meters, the ramp caisson will have a length of 24 meters and the closing caisson will have a length of 29 meters.
After the manufacture of the first caisson (module corresponding to the closure of the extension), the formwork was modified to undertake the manufacture of the ramp caisson and, after a final change in the formwork, the manufacture of the remaining caissons of the total of seven began.
According to the actions planned in the Master Plan for Infrastructures of the Port of Arrecife, the extension of the Naos dock is the "only viable solution" to cover the operations of the regular line and ro-ro cargo ships that dock at the Los Mármoles dock, thus maintaining connectivity with the island guaranteed 365 days a year.
