The Department of Agriculture and Livestock of the Cabildo of Lanzarote will process until January 28 the subsidies granted by the Government of the Canary Islands to individuals, companies and other entities related to the agricultural and livestock sector of the island.

These subsidies have been called in advance by the regional Executive for the year 2013 and will be aimed at the modernization of agricultural and livestock farms; the promotion of production systems of native livestock breeds; the increase of the added value of agricultural products; and for the improvement of the quality of life of rural areas in the Canary Islands.

Likewise, subsidies will be granted for the first installation of young livestock farmers and the first installation of young farmers, "with the aim of promoting livestock and agricultural activity among young people." To this end, aid will be granted for the first installation to young owners of agricultural and livestock farms, "thus contributing to the necessary generational change in the sector."

As the ultimate goal of this subsidy, the Government of the Canary Islands also intends to fix the young population in the rural areas of the islands. And they consider that "the promotion of the first installation of young farmers, as owners of agricultural farms, will also contribute to the creation of employment with special consideration for women."

Native breeds

Finally, "to improve the quality of life in the rural areas of the Canary Islands highlands", the regional Government has also called for advance subsidies for this present year for the development of diverse actions, such as the provision of basic services for the economy and the rural population; the renovation and development of rural populations and the conservation and improvement of the rural patrimony.
